Studying History to Understand the Persistence of Segregation
Richard Rothstein, author of The Color of Law: The Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America presented critical truths about the segregation of our country. It did not happen accidentally. It did not happen naturally. It happened because of government actions and policies.
I was honored to introduce Professor Rothstein during his presentation here in Rochester, and then to moderate the important conversation that followed. Thank you to Pathstone, Rochester Area Community Foundation, and the other partners who worked together to give Rochester the opportunity to say that we want to have this conversation. It is up to all of us to continue the conversation and advocate for new policies to address our current segregation.
I highly recommend Rothstein’s book, and I would love to hear from you if you read it. My introductory comments can be heard on my Facebook page.
The Democrat and Chronicle provided a write up of Rothstein’s visit. WXXI Connections made this topic the subject for their interview show earlier that week, and the full show can be heard here.
